Asbestos Abatement

Although asbestos use was banned in 1985 and asbestos containing products were no longer sold after 1986, it can still be found in building materials used in homes and buildings built up to 1990. If your home or building was built in 1990 or prior, you are best to have testing done prior to completing any renovations.

Asbestos is a dangerous substance that can cause multiple health issues if not dealt with properly. Most asbestos will never affect you if it is left undisturbed. If for any reason you are unsure if your house may contain asbestos, you should call a professional. Tests can be conducted to see if any building materials in your home contain asbestos.

The most prevalent areas in your home that may contain asbestos are:

  1. Drywall joint compound
  2. Blown in attic insulation (vermiculite)
  3. Pipe wrap insulation (mainly found on old boiler systems)
  4. Stipple ceiling (especially if you have swirls/designs in the stipple ceiling)
